What is Reiyukai ?
|
|
Reiyukai is a
practical way of life, which responds to the demands
of modern society. The Reiyukai philosophy traces
back to the teachings of a man who lived about 2500
years ago. This man, Shakyamuni Buddha was not
concerned with questions about the origins of the
world because he did not feel the answer would offer
any practical help to the problem of human beings. He
was concerned instead with the suffering and
unhappiness of the people around him.
|
|
He saw that ignorance
causes people to desire things they do not need or
which are harmful to them, and that it causes people
to see the world, themselves and each other with
unclear eyes. He saw that ignorance causes the
suffering of people who strive to improve their lives
but cannot find the way to do it. He also saw that
wisdom or knowledge could alleviate this suffering.
And he saw that just as he was able to gain wisdom
from his experiences, so too can any other human
being.
|
 |
|
The essence of his
teachings lies in this idea: that all human beings
can improve themselves through a willingness to learn
from new experiences, and that all human beings can
become more compassionate and less apt to create
sorrow for themselves through the wisdom they gain
from these experiences. |
