It is this positivism, this
altruistic attitude that then gives us the courage
to change. And change for the better. Once we pay
attention to the changes within ourselves and our
environment and their causes, the world ceases to be
an uncontrollable place.

If we do not pay attention to these
changes around us, we may find ourselves
concentrating so much on the future that we
sacrifice the present. Reiyukai practice motivates
us to make most of today by investing time and
energy in our relationships and in efforts to learn
from our daily experiences. |

Of course we must distinguish clearly between our desires, our needs, and the
pressures we feel from our environment. Some people scurry through life trying
to satisfy other people or society’s idea of what is right for them. On the
other hand there are those who seek only what satisfies their own desires, never
thinking of how their actions affect others. |
